These horseman came by while we drove to Lephoi. Their bright blankets popped out from the gold of the land and the blue of the sky. Basotho horses are special to Lesotho, and play an important part in the culture. The are amazingly agile, and can climb the rocky mountainsides of Lesotho. They also have a special step, call a “Basotho triple” which is between a trot and a gallop and reduces the bounce, creating a very smooth and swift run.
